Big Boost: Harambee Stars Players Allowances Increased

File Photo
Harambee Stars players’ allowances have been increased from Kshs3000 ($35) to Kshs 10000 ($118).

This was confirmed to supersport.com by FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya on Monday.

“We want to encourage the boys ahead of the World cup campaign and we have decided to increase their daily allowances. They were initially earning Kshs 3000 per day but that has been increased to Kshs10,000. We want to motivate the players and achieve the goals we intend to reach.”

He also commented on the ‘Mbao for Bao’ campaign which translates to ’Kshs 20 for a goal’ in English.

“We want Kenyans to own the national team and they can do that by supporting the Harambee Stars and send a text to 20870 then the team will earn the Kshs 20 from the effort as a result. The response so far has been overwhelming and we would like to call for fans to support by participating.”

Kenya is currently bottom of Group F with two points, while their next opponents Nigeria top the group with five, level on points with Malawi who are followed by Namibia with three on third place.

Harambee Stars Begin Their Camp In Naivasha

Harambee Stars have opened camp in Naivasha ahead of their World cup qualifier match against Nigeria.

The team left Nairobi for the tourist town on Wednesday afternoon.

“We have opted to go to Naivasha to avoid the hustle and bustle that comes with the busy city. The other reason is the pitch. It is better here and we want to train here before we face Super Eagles,” said Stars Coach Adel Amrouche.

“As we speak the team has safely arrived and we look forward to improve the side in the coming days.”

The team had been training at City Stadium for weeks with only local-based players before a few of the foreign-based including Jamal Mohammed and Patrick Osiako joined the squad.

The last time Kenya trained out of Nairobi was back in 2010 when they faced Uganda in an Afcon qualifier that ended in a barren draw.
Mariga Set To Miss Nigerian Match

The team will miss out on key players in the Eagles clash: Arnold origi and Dennis Oliech out on suspension, Ayub Timbe who declined the call up, David Gateri and MacDonald Mariga who are injured.

Not Good News: MacDonald Mariga Pulls Out Of Harambee Stars Squad A Head Of Nigerian Match

Parma midfielder Macdonald Mariga has ruled himself out of the 2014 World Cup qualifier between Kenya’s Harambee Stars and Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Nairobi on June 5.

Mariga’s father Noah Wanyama has exclusively informed Goal.com that the towering star, who is on loan at Parma from Inter Milan, is scheduled to undergo a minor knee surgery in USA and thus will not be available for the decisive fixture against the African champions.
“Mariga will not be available because he has to undergo an operation to heel his troubled knee. The surgery will take place almost the same time when we will play Nigeria and thus he will not make it."

Wanyama added, “Mariga wants to start the coming season free of injury and that can only be achieved if he does the operation now. He has wished the team well and is confident that Kenya have the best squad capable of gunning down the Super Eagles at home.”

Mariga, who last featured for Kenya during the 2012 Afcon qualifier against Uganda Cranes in Kampala, is among foreign-based players coach Adel Amrouche had summoned to camp to prepare for the match.

Since joining Parma, Mariga has not enjoyed enough playing time after he was stretched off after damaging his abductor following a collision with an opponent, five minutes into his full debut against Genoa on February 15.

Wanyama also confirmed that midfielder Victor Wanyama, who turns out for Scottish champions Celtic, was due in the country on Monday night.

Meanwhile, Kenyan captain Dennis Oliech is already in the country though he is not eligible to face Nigeria having picked two yellow cards.

Oliech was spotted at City Stadium on Saturday watching a premiership match between AFC Leopards and his former club Mathare United.

He did not feature for his club Ajaccio, who were involved in a relegation battle in the French Ligue one against Nice. Though they lost 2-0 against Nice, Ajaccio survived relegation.
The Kenyan skipper will however, be eligible to play when the team travels to Malawi on June 14 for a World Cup qualifier.

Gor Mahia Vs Tusker League Match Postponed

Kenya Premier League  (KPL) have postponed the eagerly awaited league match between Gor Mahia and Tusker FC that was scheduled for May 30 (Thursday) at Nyayo Stadium.

A statement from KPL confirmed that the match has been pushed to a date to be communicated later to allow Harambee Stars prepare adequately for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Nigeria on June 5.

“Tusker Premier League match number 64 Tusker vs  GorMahia at the Nyayo Stadium, originally scheduled for May 30, has been postponed to a date to be communicated,” read the statement.

The statement added, “This is due to the national team Harambee Stars preparations for international assignments.”

The match was initially set to be played earlier in the season but was postponed due to both teams’ involvement in Caf competitions.

Both Gor Mahia and Tusker FC have played less matches in the league due to their involvement in the Confederations Cup and Champions League respectively and they will be having less time to rest in the June mid-season if they are to catch up with the rest of the teams.
This move will now see Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche have all the players in camp as he gears up for the do or die Nigeria tie at the Moi Kasarani...Courtesy of Goal.Com

Breaking News: Charles Okwemba Leaves FC Leopards For Rangers

AFC Leopards midfielder Charles Okwemba may just have played his last match for the club against Mathare United on Saturday.

The midfielder has confirmed to Goal.com that he will move to Division One side Rangers FC in June following an agreement between Leopards and the team sponsored by Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK).

The corporation has asked all its employees turning out for other clubs to join Rangers or risk losing their jobs.

Okwemba was given a six month waiver which has expired.
"Unless things change, I am going back to Rangers because this is what we had agreed with Leopards," said Okwemba.

Western Stima Electrocutes Gor Mahia: Final Scores (Western Stima 2 Gor Mahia 1)

Western Stima stopped visiting Gor Mahia 2-1 during Sunday’s Kenya Premier League (KPL) match at Mumias Complex.

It was however, Gor who scored first in the 14th minute when David Owino rose high to head home a decent free-kick laid by Moses Odhiambo.

The hosts were back in the match just two minutes later when Hedmound Mauda beat Jerim Onyango in a goal with a powerful cross that the Gor Mahia custodian could do nothing about other than punch into his own net.

Then Wesley Kemboi ensured Stima went to the break leading after he scored in the 20th minute. He took advantage of a hesitation by Ivan Anguyo to clear a loose ball in his half.

Despite dropping all three points, Gor Mahia showed early intention to go ahead when Dan Sserunkuma’s shot hit the side-netting.

Then Owino, the scorer of Gor’s only goal was denied in the fifth minute being ruled off-side after he had risen to head home from a Moses Odhiambo cross. As the first half came to a close, Kevin Omondi missed by failing to slam home a neat pass from Musa Mohammed.

Determined to get something from the match, Gor rested Joseph Njuguna for Anthony Akumu in a move that ensured more balls got to the front men.

It was from one of this moves that Rama Salim scored in the 55th minute but he too was ruled to have been off-side. Akumu was pulled off from the pitch due to injury and his replacement Moses Otieno hit the bar with his first touch of the ball.

Gor were the more hungrier side as the match neared its end. An 82nd minute free kick by Kevin Omondi hit the cross bar and it was the end of the road for the visitors..Courtesy of Goal.com

Dortmund lost 2-1 on a late goal by Arjen Robben on Saturday at Wembley.

"It's like all the wounds have healed overnight," Dortmund's coach Juergen Klopp said after the team's return. "It was the best game against Bayern by any team in a long time."

2013 UEFA Champions League - Bayern Munich Are The Winners

Arjen Robben's 89th minute goal sealed a 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the first all-German final in Europe's top club competition and wiped away bitter Bayern memories of showpiece defeats in 2010 and 2012.

The Bundesliga champions can complete a German treble in the German Cup final against VfB Stuttgart next Saturday and such is the strength of their overall setup, further success is fully expected in the next few seasons.

Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes, 68, is retiring at the end of the season having become only the fourth manager to have lifted the European Cup with two different clubs having also won with Real Madrid in 1998.

He gives way to ultra successful former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola and with Dortmund's Germany midfielder Mario Goetze already signed up for next term and their striker Robert Lewandowski also eyed, Bayern's confidence can only skyrocket.

"Bayern will have to prove that they can continue to achieve these things but it is quite possible a new era might have begun for Bayern Munich," Heynckes told a news conference....Super Sport News

Adel Amrouche Angered By Gor Mahia's Coach

Adel Amrouche
With just days to the much awaited World Cup qualifier pitting hosts Harambee Stars against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, the national team coach Adel Amrouche is a furious man.

Amrouche’s patience was tasted on Thursday when Gor Mahia coach Zradvko Logarusic interrupted his training session at City Stars hurling abuses at him and refusing his players to interact with the coach.

Speaking to supersport.com after the incidence Amrouche called for respect for the national team and reiterated that it was becoming impracticable to work with the Gor Mahia players with the constant interference of their coach.

"It is absurd and disrespectful for any coach to disrespect the national team which is bigger than any team. I have been patient with the coach Zradvko Logarusic but what he did today in front of my players in training was not only despicable but shameful and disrespectful. Logarusic interrupted my training session hurling abuses at me and telling his players in the national team not to interact with me."

"I think I have had enough of this disrespect and wonder what powers a club coach has over the national team. I have a very good rapport with all the coaches in the league but I wonder why one coach will be the person to disrespect everyone at this time when we are preparing for important matches," a furious Amrouche told supersport.com.

"It is now hard working with players from Gor whose coach is trying to deny them a chance to play for the national team by trying to create confusion that only benefits his ego," he added...Courtesy of Super Sport News

Ghana's Black Stars Rule Out Camping and Playing Friendly Match Against Kenya's Harambee Stars

The Black Stars of Ghana will not camp in Kenya ahead of their World cup qualifies match against Sudan set for June.

This has been revealed to supersport.com by the Ghana FA spokesman Ibrahim Sannie Daara. Instead, they are expected to camp in Ethiopia.

“It’s unfortunate that we have to shift our camp and we wont be in Kenya as earlier planned. There has been a turn of events.”

“We will meet on Thursday to find out our next destination and plan accordingly. As far as now, we haven’t confirmed anything.”

On Tuesday, the friendly match that pitted the two sides was called off following a decision by Ghana who claimed that juggling their schedule would be time constraint.

The decision left FKF without a build up match prior their Nigeria match that will be staged on 7th June at Moi International centre, Kasarani.

Their opponents leave for Germany this week and will play Mexico as part of their preparations.
Harambee Stas have been holding training sessions for local-based players as the coach remain tight lipped on the list of foreign-based players.

MacDonald Mariga Called Up To The Harambee Stars Squad

MacDonald Mariga who features for Parma on loan has been called up to the national team and is scheduled to turn up for the team for the first time for over a year.

Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche told supersport.com that captain Dennis Oliech and shot stopper Arnold Origi absence will create a huge void.

“The captain Oliech and Origi are instrumental to the team but it is important for people to know that no one is indispensable and we will give other players a chance, especially the local ones.”

“I have confidence in them and what I strive to achieve with them is to get a young team for the future, so as much as we’ll miss the duo for the Nigeria match, we’ll try replace them before they get back into fray for Malawi match in June.”...Super Sport News

Frank Lampard: 'Jose Mourinho Is World's Best'

Courtesy of The Sun

The Blues have famously rotated the man in the dugout in recent years — with SEVEN different men writing the teamsheets since Mourinho left in 2007.

From the highs of Champions League glory to the lows of Luis Felipe Scolari and Andre Villas-Boas, the approach has had mixed results.

But Chelsea’s all-time leading goalscorer Lampard reckons Mourinho has the man-management qualities to bring title glory back to Stamford Bridge ahead of a possible return.

He said: “It’s a presence and an aura and a way with people.

“He galvanises people. His own self-confidence reflects back on his teams. He did that to me personally.

“Tactically he’s fantastic. He’s very astute. As a team he sets you up brilliantly.

"But what he does is he gets the best out of players and gets this togetherness that I’d never known until he came to the club and I haven’t seen it again since then.”
Lampard came of age under Mourinho at Chelsea, scoring and assisting at will on the way to two Premier League titles.
The 34-year-old added: “He might rub people up the wrong way.

“As a manager, he’s brilliant with his team, tactically, he’s brilliant with individuals and I think he’s brilliant with the press.

“I know it creates a storm, but he does protect his players.”

“He made me believe I was better than I was at the time.

“I thought I was a decent player, but he said to me ’listen, you can really get to the top’ and he made me believe it. I tried to take it on and do it.

“I’ve had really good managers and different managers at times. It’s the ones that get the best out of you, individually.

“Mourinho was the best. For me he was. He brought my confidence to a level it had never been.”

Thika United Are Back On Top Of Kenyan Premier League

Thika United were held to a one all draw by Mathare United in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash staged at Thika Municipal Stadium on Sunday.

Speaking after the game, head coach John Kamau said he was happy with the point, though he admitted a win would have been sweeter. He pointed out that despite missing two points from the clash, his team gave a great output which gives him better hope for the future.

“It was a tough game given the circumstances; we were just coming from a tough Top 8 clash against a very good Chemelil Sugar side which was ahead of us on aggregate and I can’t fault my players for the result. They did really well though normally I would have wished for a win,” said Kamau.

“The tactical approach we gave in the game gives me a lot of hope in the players because we stuck to the plan and gave our all against a good side. We created good openings and all that is okay with me because the point earned will help us out some time later.”

The result took Thika United back on top of the KPL log with 21 points ahead of Sofapaka on goals scored.......Courtesy of SuperSport

Kenya's Victor Mugubi Wanyama Voted Scottish Young Player Of The Year

Victor Mugubi Wanyama
Kenyan international midfielder Victor Wanyama of Scottish club, Celtic, on Monday evening added the Clydesdale Bank Young Player of the Season award to his ever growing list of accolades this season.

By winning bagging the coveted title, barely a fortnight after winning a similar award at club level, the combative holding midfielder wraps up the season as one of the most decorated player in the Hoops’ squad.

According to Sports TV, the Kenyan international, who is in his second year with the Scottish champions, failed to win a monthly award in the league this campaign but was been recognized for his consistent performances in the course of the Scottish Premier League campaign.
Wanyama joins Motherwell boss, Stuart McCall, and Hibernian’s Leigh Griffiths in winning the annual awards, with the pair having been named as Manager and Player of the Season respectively.

The 21 year old had been nominated for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year Award, but lost out to Griffiths in the union’s prize.

Historic win
Wanyama has made 49 appearances for Celtic this season, and scored in his side’s historic 2-1 home win over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions’ League group stage match.
The former Germinal Beerschot and Nairobi City Stars player, whose style of play has been linked to that of on-loan Real Madrid midfielder and Ghana international, Michael Essien, has become a household name in Europe owing to his impeccable performance this season.
The player has been linked with several top clubs in Europe despite having a year left in his contract.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger tops the list of elite club managers that have expressed interest for his services, with Serie A champions Juventus also reported to be interested.

Football Kenya Federation chairman Sam Nyamweya, yesterday lauded the player for his achievement.

“Wanyama’s selection as Scottish Young Player of the Year is a joyous development for Kenyan football. To see one of our own feted in a very competitive league is a great honour,” Nyamweya said.

“The selection was no real surprise to us here as Wanyama has always been the epitome of professionalism, whether playing for his club side Celtic or donning national colours for the Harambee Stars. His dedication and commitment to positive results has been consistent with his game. We are very happy for him,” Nyamweya added.

Now a prized asset in Neil Lennon’s squad, Wanyama’s journey to the top has been no walk in the park. His growth has been marred by great challenges, but resilience and will seems to have kept the son of Noah Wanyama, a former AFC Leopards and Harambee Stars great focused in his game.

Manchester United's Trophy Parade: Robin Van Persie Talks

Robin Van Persie
"This trophy is for the fans, the players, the staff... the one thing I really like is it's made so many people so happy."

Robin van Persie was thrilled to see the people of Manchester sharing in his title joy on Monday evening, when the champions paraded the Barclays Premier League trophy through the city.
The Dutchman spoke of his delight from the top deck of United's bus, as he surveyed the scenes on Chester Road and Deansgate on the route from Old Trafford to Albert Square.

"Everyone is so happy, it's just incredible," van Persie told MUTV.
"This trophy is for the fans, the players, the staff... the one thing I really like is it's made so many people so happy. You see kids, babies, women, men, all sorts of people are so happy and I'm very pleased to see that."

Van Persie is still getting acquainted with the Premier League silverware after lifting it for the first time in his career on Sunday.

"The medal hasn't left my neck since yesterday, it's been here all night," he said. "The trophy's a heavy trophy and it's great to win it finally."

United's top scorer in 2012/13 praised the welcoming atmosphere at Old Trafford as he reflected on a successful and "incredible" first season with the Reds.

"It's been really good settling in. The boys have been really, really nice to me from day one. I've noticed that they want to share success and I'm like that as well. I want to have success but I want everyone to play their part in it which they did.

"The guys have great banter, they're good guys, funny guys, we joke around a lot but when we have to work, we do that. We train hard and we play hard as well so hopefully there will be many more trophies to come. I'm sure that will happen with this team.

"We've got loads of big characters. This is what I like about this team. Everyone is his own character, everyone adds to the team. To become champions in the end, every little thing helps."

Van Persie also had a heartfelt eulogy for the manager he has worked with for only one season - Sir Alex Ferguson.

"To be able to work with Sir Alex for one year, it's been a massive year. It's been an unbelievable year which I will never forget. He's an unbelievable manager, maybe the best ever. But he's an even greater person. I'm really honoured to have worked with him."

Manchester City Boss Roberto Mancini Faces The Axe

Courtesy Of Sky News

Manchester City are set to sack manager Roberto Mancini in the next few days after he failed to defend his team's Premier League title.

Sky News understands that City's Abu Dhabi-based owners have decided to end Mancini's three-year term as manager after losing faith in his ability to take the team forward.

The decision comes despite Mancini's central role last season in returning the English league title to City for the first time since 1968.

In his three years at the club City have not finished outside the top three in the Premier League and they won the FA Cup in 2011, ending a 43-year drought for the blue half of Manchester.

It is the failure to mount a credible defence of the league title, compounded by Saturday's defeat to Wigan in the FA Cup final, that has cost Mancini his job.

The owners have also become frustrated at the lack of progress in Europe, where despite investing hundreds of millions of pounds in wages and transfers fees, City have not progressed from the group stages under Mancini.

There has also been growing unrest among the players at Mancini's public criticism of them, and frustration at the performance of some of the Italian's transfer targets.

The decision to sack Mancini has been taken by the club's chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak on the advice of the new executive team, led by Spanish chief executive Ferran Soriano and his compatriot director of football Txiki Begiristain.

Club officials met with Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini last month and he has been closely linked with replacing Mancini, but on Monday morning he issued a statement denying that he has agreed a deal to take over at the Etihad.

He said: "I deny today that I am the new manager of Manchester City. I have not signed an agreement with anyone.

"Every year I am linked with major clubs, and it's an honour, but I have an agreement with Malaga not to speak to anyone and I have made no deal with anyone else."

The decision to sack Mancini will focus attention on Abu Dhabi's stewardship of City.

Despite spending vast sums and racking up £300m in losses in the last two seasons they have always insisted that they are planning for the long term.

Sacking a man who has just finished second appears more comparable with the approach of Roman Abramovich at Chelsea, who has a record of firing managers in a restless search for success.

Kenyan Rugby 7's Coach; Mike Friday Fired! - Ugly Twists and Drama At Kenya Rugby Union

In a remarkable turn of events, Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) chairman, Mwangi Muthee maintains that Mike Friday and Chris Brown are still at the helm of the national rugby sevens team.

Muthee told Capital Sports from London in the aftermath of the announcement the Briton has been axed, that instead, the Director of National Squads and Elite Performance Philip Jalang’o is the one to go home instead.
Earlier today, Jalango had released a press statement indicating that Coach Fiday had been sacked and he was now the man in charge.

NATIONAL SQUAD & ELITE PERFORMANCE

DATE : 13TH MAY 2013

SUBJECT : TERMINATION OF CONTRACTS OF THE KENYA 7S HEAD, S & C COACHES

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

"As the Director of National Squads & Elite Performance, the responsibility given to me by the Board is to our players, and our National Squads programs. As such, the Board is always going to try to base any decisions on those two guiding principles. After a comprehensive review of the Kenya 7’s rugby program during the 2012-2013 season, and with the support of the Board, KRU is terminating the contract of Mike Friday as Kenya 7s Head Coach and Chris Brown the Strength & Conditioning Coach, effective immediately. This decision is not based solely on wins and losses, but on a number of factors by which the Head Coach has been evaluated. At this point, in regard to our Kenya 7’s program, our players need mentorship, leadership and guidance to maximize on their performance along the goals and objectives of the Kenya Rugby Union.

The Head Coach has failed to exemplify the Vision, Mission and Core Values of KRU at certain points of the season. Effective today, the KRU Board has appointed Assistant Head Coach Felix Ochieng, as the interim Head Coach and Bronson Weir from Western Province to assist him, through the remainder of the season. Felix has been with the program 10 years, and the Board has great confidence in Felix's ability, and Bronson Weir to guide the team to the world cup. The KRU Board is not giving up on our long term goals for the Kenya 7’s program. Today's announcement is about addressing the present and the future needs of our Kenya 7’s program. We want to make the most of our remaining season with the World Cup and put our players in position for success. I want to thank Mike Friday & Chris Brown for everything they have contributed to Kenya 7’s over the past 1 year. The Kenya 7’s family have always shown great character and tremendous heart, and enjoyed a huge support from the board, sponsors and Rugby fraternity. They have also enjoyed considerable rugby success on the IRB circuit this year. In those regards, Mike Friday has led a model program - all of which has made for a difficult decision today. But as previously stated, my primary focus as per the KRU Board mandate is our players and the future of our Kenya 7’s program. As this is an institutional personnel issue, we shall announce a new structure for the 2013-2014 season, after the Rugby World Cup. I cannot comment further, and I trust you will all respect the position of the Kenya Rugby Union Board. "

Why I Must Always Score Against AFC Leopards: An Emotional Gor Mahia's Dan Sserenkuma Explains

Dan Sserenkuma Celebrates Scoring Against Ingwe
Dan Sserenkuma is the only player to have scored a hat trick against AFC Leopards during Gor Mahia vs AFC Leopards past meets. Deep in his heart, AFC Leopards was his club's choice however, Dan states categorical and emotionally that the Leopards almost broke his heart: before the gods of good luck visited him and established for him a place within the Kogalo ranks. In his words, Dan Sserenkuma says that:

“When I came to Kenya last season, I wanted to play for AFC Leopards. I approached them but one of their officials said I did not look like a footballer. He called me an impostor. That hurt,” he said.

“I promised myself to always play hard against AFC, just to show them what talent they had turned away without as much as a second thought. And I am doing exactly that – creating misery for them by scoring in their goal every chance I get,” he added.

Gor Mahia's Coach; Logarusic Is Delighted With Derby Win

Gor Mahia coach Zradvko Logarusic was over the moon as his side stunned archrivals AFC Leopards 1-0 at the Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

Logarusic could not hide his joy as he heaped praises on the players calling the win the starting point to their title challenge.

"I am a very happy man today as it was a very tough match but we held on despite the strong challenge from our opponents. The resilience and determination by my players paid off handsomely as they effectively used a counter attack to finish off leopards and this are some of the tactics we have been practising," an elated Logarusic told supersport.com.

"This win is a huge motivations factor for the team and from now on we have set sights to winning our remaining matches to give the title chase another shot this season. I would also like to thank our fans for being very supportive as they stood with us until the end of the game," he added.

Gor have a date with City Stars over the weekend where they are expected to continue with their winning streak. Last week K’Ogalo beat Muhoroni Youth 2-0 while Leopards lost 2-1 to City Stars.

Dan Sserunkuma’s third goal of the season gave Gor Mahia a hard fought 1-0 win over archrivals AFC Leopards in a Kenyan Premier League match at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

The diminutive Ugandan continued his love in with Leopards scoring on the break 16 minutes from time to give K’Ogalo its third straight win over Ingwe. Sserunkuma has now scored six times against Sunday’s opponents in the last three matches.

The match was however stopped for five minutes after a scuffle amongst the fans following Ssreunkuma’s goal but calm was restored and the game ended with Gor moving to third place on the log with 17 points.

K’Ogalo may have walked away with three points but they were indebted to skipper Jerim Onyango who produced a man of the match display making save after save to keep out Leopards’ strikers.

For Leopards, coach Luc Eymael’s wait for a first win of the season continues as his charges failed to utilise numerous chances that fell their way especially in the first half. He has now gone six matches with no victory since he joined the 12 time league champions.

The home side settled early with left back Abbas Kiwalabye testing Onyango from 40 yards on ten minutes. It would be the story of the first half as Onyango then had to save from Edwin Wafula four minutes later.

Gor’s first sniff at goal came in the 20th minute but David Owino failed to hit the target after a sleek one two down the right flank.

Then it was back to Onyango making a save this time from Noah Wafula on 23 minutes. His save of the match came on 26 minutes as he flung to his right to keep out Wafula’s stinging drive after a quick counter attack.

Leopards’ keeper Patrick Matasi had been a spectator until the 32nd minute when Sserunkuma hit one from 25 yards.

A mix up almost gave Gor the lead on 37 minutes when Matasi and Jonas Nahimana both went for the same ball but Edwin Lavatsa was unable to hit the target from Sserunkuma’s resulting cross.

Onyango had one more save to make five minutes to the break spilling Mike Barasa’s freekick before recovering to block Wafula’s follow up.

Gor threw on Rama Salim as they sought to gain a foothold in the game and the playmaker thought he had earned a penalty after being tripped by Nahimana but the referee waved away his appeals on 62 minutes.

On as a substitute Allan Wanga then struck the upright after good work by fellow substitute Paul Were had put him through 21 minutes from time.

Were then tried his luck on 73 minutes but Onyango was alert palming it away for a corner.
It was from that corner that Gor took the lead after a lightning counter attack.

Lavatsa found Salim who skipped past a defender and even though Matasi saved his effort, Sserunkuma was on hand to turn in the rebound setting off wild celebrations.
