The long waited ‘mashemeji; derby is once more here
with Kenyans. Kenya Premier League have confirmed that AFC Leopards, who are
the hosts team, have decided to shift the match to Nyayo National Stadium and
NOT Moi International Sports Center (Kasarani), in order to give more of the
both teams fans an opportunity to watch the game, and equally maximizes on the
clubs revenue collection.
It is an exciting derby which could not come at a
better time; noting that AFC Leopards had already secured a deal with Zuku Pay
Tv worth over 9 million shillings over the week. The Mashemeji derby therefore,
will probably be the first Kenyan Premier League that Zuku Tv will air on the
New Ingwe TV Site. On the other hand, those who may not make it to Nyayo
stadium can still catch the live streaming on Super Sports; Channel number
nine.
It is very interesting to note that AFC Leopards had their ban; (baring the club from using facilities belonging to Sports Stadia Management Board: Following damages caused by club fans during their opening fixture against Chemelil Sugar at Kasarani and against the same in a top eight match at Nyayo Stadium) lifted on Monday. They therefore have a green light to use the Nairobi West facility come Sunday.
‘All we wanted is AFC Leopards to pay for
damages caused in the two stadia by their fans and they have agreed to
compensate payable in installments. They have equally set up strategic plans on
how to deal with their fans going forward and that means that they have met our
demands’……SSMB Public Relations Officer (Rakki Asman).
