Kenya Rugby Sevens Team: Rugby World Cup Sevens Pictures
News Just In: Kenya are through to the main cup quarters at the Rugby World Cup Sevens after edging Samoa 17-12 in a Pool C decider at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Saturday 29 June 2013.

Humphrey Kayange put Kenya ahead, spotting a gap and scoring close to the posts, Biko Adema missing the ensuing conversion. Kenya would continue bossing Samoa at the break down, keeping possession and denying their opponents any breathing space.

Willy Ambaka would extend Kenya's lead, racing the length of the field to score at the corner with Adema converting for a 12-0 lead at half time.

The side would get their foot off the gas pedal, allowing Samoa to come back courtesy of Lio Lulu's brace of tries and Alatasi Tupou's sole conversion and it seemed like the match was slipping away from the Kenyans as they ceded possession and ground.

They would however regroup, eating into Samoan territory and substitute Mike Wanjala's try at the death earned them the quarter final ticket by virtue of topping Pool C. Kenya will know their quarter final opponents at the close of group play later today. (Kenya Rugby Union).

Breaking News: Carlos Tevez Completes Move from Manchester City to Juventus

Carlos Tevez: Image Courtesy
Courtesy of Supersports: Carlos Tevez sealed his move to Juventus on Wednesday after four controversy-filled years at Manchester City and was handed the unenviable task of trying to emulate club hero Alessandro Del Piero.

Italian champions Juve announced his arrival with a picture of the Argentine striker holding up Del Piero's old number 10 jersey alongside club president Andrea Agnelli.

A statement said he had reached a deal to sign a three-year-contract. There was no word on the transfer fee but media reports have put it at €12 million.

"The Argentine is used to winning. He has done so wherever he has been," Juve's website (www.juventus.com) added.

Del Piero spent almost 20 years at Juve, helping them win the 1996 Champions League and sticking by the club when they spent one season in Serie B in 2006/07 after being demoted for match-fixing.

He left for Australia's Sydney FC last year having broken almost every Juve record in the book. Michel Platini and Roberto Baggio also famously wore Juve's number 10 shirt.

Handing Tevez the ex-Italy striker's former shirt is a mark of intent from Juve, who have won the Serie A twice in a row without a big name forward but are now targeting renewed European glory.

Coach Antonio Conte has rotated between any two of Sebastian Giovinco, Alessandro Matri, Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella, who have shared the goals evenly between them.

Athletic Bilbao forward Fernando Llorente joins Juve next month.

Matri could now be sacrificed to suitors AC Milan, who had been tracking Tevez.

Earlier Tevez was whisked to Turin after hundreds of fans greeted him amid chaotic scenes at Milan's Malpensa airport.

Television pictures showed Tevez being mobbed by fans before being taken back into the terminal by Juventus staff and put into a car via a side entrance.

Manchester United's Ryan Giggs Undecided on Future

Ryan Giggs: Image Courtesy
Ryan Giggs says he is yet to map out the path that will follow his eventual retirement from football, but the Manchester United legend admits he is excited about the next chapter in his career.

Giggs is currently attending the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Turkey as part of the UEFA Pro Licence course and has been widely tipped for success in either management or coaching following an illustrious playing career that has yielded 25 major honours and over 1000 matches.

Of course, the iconic Welshman is far from finished yet and is about to embark on an unprecedented 24th season at Old Trafford – his first without mentor Sir Alex Ferguson. But he is self-aware enough to know the end is near and is already planning for whatever might come next.

“It’s quite tough, I am sort of an intense person so when I am still playing and concentrating on that,” Giggs explained during an interview with The FA's official website. “But also, I have got to start thinking that it is near the end, I have to start thinking about what I am going to do afterwards.

“I am in the process of doing that really and obviously coming on this course has helped me, speaking to other people, listening to what the coaches or tutors say, and just trying to get little bits that can help you really. Everyone has their own style and everyone picks up different things.
“Obviously, I'd be stupid not to pick up on the stuff I've learnt from Sir Alex. So I don’t know where I am going to be a coach or a manager, if I decide to go into coaching, but it is obviously exciting for me.

Carlo Ancelotti moves to Real Madrid as Blanc appointed his PSG successor

(CNN) -- Football's managerial merry-go-round swung into action Tuesday as both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain ended months of speculation by appointing new coaches.

Carlo Ancelotti has left PSG to take over at Real, while former French national team coach Laurent Blanc has replaced the Italian in Paris.

Nine-time European champion Real has been searching for a new coach since Jose Mourinho moved to Ancelotti's former club Chelsea earlier this month.

Ancelotti has signed a three-year contract at the Bernabeu and will be presented to the media on Wednesday.

Former France captain Blanc's arrival at PSG was announced at almost exactly the same time as Ancelotti's appointment.

"Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the appointment of Laurent Blanc as coach for the next two years," read a PSG statement.

"The board of Paris Saint-Germain has given Laurent Blanc the mission to build on last season and to continue the club's ascendency towards the summits of the European game."

Both Ancelotti and Blanc will be tasked with improving their respective club's performance in the European Champions League.

Ancelotti will look to deliver an historic 10th triumph in Europe's premier club competition for Real, having won the competition twice as coach of AC Milan.

The 54-year-old also won the European Cup twice with Milan as a player.

Qatar-owned PSG will expect Blanc to mould an expensively-assembled squad into a major European force.

Blanc will have players such as Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Brazil captain Thiago Silva at his disposal at the Parc des Princes.

As a player, Blanc led the France team during the greatest period in its history.

He captained the team to victory on home soil at the 1998 World Cup, when France beat Brazil 3-0 in the final, before playing a central role in Les Bleus' win over Italy in the final of Euro 2000.
Blanc has been out of work since stepping down as France coach after Euro 2012.

Nairobi City Stars suspend two Ugandan Players over indiscipline

As Reported by Kawowo Sports: Nairobi City Stars have suspended two Ugandan players, Bruno Sserunkuma and Kenneth Tumusiime for a period of 720 hours (1 month), without featuring for the Kawangware-based team over gross indiscipline.

The duo missed club training for training one week after the team resumed preparations for their Kenyan Premier League matches, following the two weeks break they had granted as Kenya played two world cup 2014 qualifiers against Nigeria and Malawi.

City Stars chairman Peter Jabuya said that the club was forced to drop the two on disciplinary grounds and pointed out that their conduct is wanting.

“We released the duo during the international break and they promised to be back by last week but one week later we have not seen them and neither had they communicated about their where-bouts. We cannot tolerate this kind of behavior because it is affecting our plans,” he said.

Bruno Sserunkuma, a former Kasenyi F.C and Aurum Roses F.C player,  and Kenneth Tumusiime, who once featured for City Lads, Express and Entebbe Young football cubs are both residents in Entebbe Municipality. The two, Kawowo Sports asserts were sighted in Entebbe during the said period they went missing at their club.

When Kawowo sports spoke to the suspended players, they pleaded innocent and never remorseful to club management. "How can i apologise for no wrong done, i had domestic problems back home and i communicated to the officials, 30 days is no big big deal,  i will serve them to return a better player", Tumusiime, a former St Mary's Kitende Student spoke to Kawowo Sports as he was doing gym work in Nairobi.

Having already missed the goalless draw against Ulinzi stars in Nakuru last weekend, they are set to sit out this weekend's home game against Mathare United at the team's 5000 sitter Hope center stadium in Nairobi and the return leg fixture at Nyayo Stadium against the same opposition a week later.

The stars face a torrid time after their Gambian head coach, Bye Wadda departed back to his native nation, following the expiry of his contract. But Jabuya, the club chairman insists the whole house will be put to order as soon as possible. "We have people willing to take over from Wadda, and we shall ensure continuity of this great club, he says. Wadda has been since replaced by Kenyan native, Charles "Korea" Omondi. He is reportedly said to have commenced official club duties on Monday.

Joel Ssebuliba Kayongo and Jimmy Bageya are the other Ugandans featuring in the same side.

Nairobi Kenya: Gor Mahia FC coach Zdravko Logarusic has been fired today by the club’s management. The breaking news comes after a long and unclear wait for his return from holiday in his native home Croatia.

The Croatian Coach failed to report back as was expected by the club management when he went for a three weeks international break that halted the Kenya Premier League to allow Harambee Stars play the 2014 World Cup qualifying matches against Nigeria and Malawi without interruption.

Assistant coach Bobby Ogolla stood in as the head coach when the team faced Karuturi Sports over the weekend at Afraha stadium in Nakuru.

According to the club website, Logarusic was sacked via email in a letter signed by club General Secretary George Bwana.

"You have not returned to your coaching duties on the day agreed and as far as we are concerned, you have deserted. The club has decided to relieve you of your duties with immediate effect", read part of the letter.

Bwana appreciated Logarusic’s services and indicated that Bobby Ogolla will lead the team as the head coach in the league title campaign and other competitions as well.

“We wish to thank Mr. Logarusic for the services he has so far rendered to the club and wish him well in his future endeavors. Bobby Ogolla will continue to steer the team as the search for a long term coach begins in earnest", added Bwana.

Logarusic was appointed by Gor Mahia as head Coach in March 2012 and steered the side to the 2012/13 FKF Cup but lost the Tusker Premier League trophy to Tusker FC on the season’s final day.

Under his reign, Uganda Cranes’ striker Daniel Sserunkuma won the 2012/13 KPL Most Valuable Player of the Year Award and finished runner up in the golden race behind eventual winner John Baraza.

He also signed Ugandan defender Israel Emuge from Kiira Young FC at the start of the current campaign who became the third Ugandan at the club. Former Kinyara and Maroons defender cum midfielder Ivan Anguyo also plays for Gor Mahia.....Kawowo Sports.

Confederations Cup results: Nigeria Cruise Past a Clueless Tahiti (Nigeria 6 Tahiti 1)

Nigerian Hat trick hero : Image courtesy
Brazil: Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi said he was relieved his side had avoided any further injuries after they thrashed minnows Tahiti 6-1 in their opening game at the Confederations Cup in Belo Horizonte.

Forwards Victor Moses, Kalu Uche and Emmanuel Emenike were all ruled out by injury before the tournament, while midfielder Ogenyi Onazi missed Monday's game with a knee problem.

Keshi hopes the Lazio player will be available for Thursday's encounter with Uruguay, which is likely to play a significant role in determining whether or not Nigeria progress from Group B.

"There are no (new) injuries to the players, because I've already lost four players," he said.

"With all this journey we've been having, arriving yesterday (Sunday) morning at four o'clock, I'm just happy there's no major problems concerning injuries."

Nigeria's preparations were disrupted by a dispute over bonus payments that meant the squad did not arrive until 36 hours before their first game.

Speaking ahead of the game, captain Vincent Enyeama had revealed that the disagreement remained unresolved, but Keshi said that was not the case.

"The issue of the bonuses has been settled. Nothing is holding us back anymore and all we need to do now is play football," he said.

Nnamdi Oduamadi, who scored a hat-trick for the African champions at Estadio Mineirao, said the players had put the dispute behind them.

"I'll say it's a big relief now, due to the stuff we had with the delay and missing the flights," said the 22-year-old forward, who spent the 2012-13 season on loan at Italian second-tier side Varese from AC Milan.

"This victory will give us a big morale. We'll talk in the group now, do everything the coach says, and we'll see what happens in the second game."

Nigeria's victory took them above Spain on goal difference at the top of Group B.

"We are getting better with every match and will make the adjustments. We need to improve even more," a delighted Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari said.
Neymar had gone 845 minutes without scoring for club or country, the second longest goal drought of his career. Scolari said he had never lost faith in the 21-year-old's ability to find the net.

Game Yetu: Super Eagles Held By Namibia's Brave Warriors - 2014 Brazil World Cup Qualifiers

Godfrey Oboabona : Image Courtesy
Namibia Vs Nigeria: Namibia’s Brave Warriors drew 1-1 against African champions, Nigeria in a feisty 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifying game in Windhoek on Wednesday.

Missing a slew of first-team players through suspension, illness and injury, Namibia struggled early to cope with the pace and power of the West Africans and were almost behind as early as the first minute when Ahmed Musa failed to hit the target from five yards.

Nigeria continued to dominate but found clear cut opportunities difficult to come by. The Namibians meanwhile continued to threaten on the break with little to show for their efforts as the first half ended goalless.

The second half followed a similar pattern with the Nigerians controlling the play without really threatening in the final third.

Namibia were growing in confidence and on 78 minutes, the Brave Warriors took an unlikely lead when Deon Kavendji got on the end of a cross by Petrus Shitembi and diverted a sweetly-struck left footed volley past a shocked Vincent Enyeama.

As expected, Nigeria poured forward in search of an equaliser and found it through an unlikely source, seven minutes from the end.

Nnamdi Oduamadi won a free kick at the edge of the Namibia box and up stepped Godfrey Oboabona who powered home an unstoppable free kick from 20 yards.

Nigeria pressed for a winner but the Brave Warriors hung on for an unlikely and famous point.

It was a great result for the Namibians who had lost their coach, Roger Palmgren a few days to the game. The Swede stepped down on Sunday claiming he and his family received threats.

For Nigeria, they will be left to ponder what might have been as they failed to clinch the win that would have seen them book a place in the playoffs with one round of games still to play.

Nigeria still lead Group F with nine points from five matches, two points more than second-placed Namibia who they host in September.....Adapted from SuperSports.com

Kenyan FA President Sam Nyamweya Happy With Malawi Draw

Adapted from Supersport.com: The president of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Sam Nyamweya, has praised the fighting spirit showed by the Harambee Stars when they held Malawi to a 2-all draw in a 2014 World Cup qualifier in Blantyre on Wednesday.

Nyamweya told supersport.com on the phone this evening that the Stars had played their hearts out like true Kenyans.

“We did not have all our players in Malawi, but we have managed to pick a point because of the determination and hard work,” said a happy Nyamweya.

The FA president said although Kenya is out of contention for a place in the next stage of the 2014 World Cup qualifications, he said the new coach Adel Amrouche has what it takes to build a formidable team for the future.

“He is a good coach whom we must give all the assistance to be able to succeed,” said Nyamweya.

In Nairobi many of the fans were also happy with the draw against Malawi.

“We never expected to get even a draw away having lost 1-0 to Nigeria last week in our own backyard,” said Frank Otieno in Nairobi.

“I think if Wanyama and Oliech had featured in that game, we would have beaten Malawi. The boys have done well and need to be motivated more,” Frank Ogude added.

A 90th minute Chimango Kayira own goal saved the Harambee Stars from a second consecutive defeat. Robin Ngalande gave the hosts an early goal in the 46th minute, before Jamal Mohammed equalized six minutes later.

As the visitors seemed to settle and play better football, Robert Ng'ambi scored a second goal for Malawi in the 82nd minute, only for Kayira to place the ball in his own net.

Kenya is bottom of Group F with three points, while Malawi remains second with seven, one point behind African Champions Nigeria

'We Lost Due To Absense of Wanyama's' - Kenya's Coach Amrouche Asserts

Adel Amrouche
Nairobi Kenya: Kenya coach Adel Amrouche has attributed Harambee Stars’ string of draws to the absence of injured star players such as Macdonald Mariga and Victor Wanyama.

The Belgian said this in a post-match interview after a 2-2 draw at the Kamuzu Stadium in Malawi on Wednesday afternoon in a 2014 World Cup Group F qualifier.

“I am not happy with the result. Every coach plays for a win but it is difficult for us in the absence of the likes of Mariga and Wanyama. Most of the players we featured are locals. I am, nonetheless, happy with the locals’ performance,” he said.

Kenya’s Andrew Murunga and Malawi’s Chimango Kaira’s last gasp own goal helped Kenya force a draw after the hosts, the Flames, had twice taken the lead through Robin Ngalande and Robert Ng’ambi.

Asked about his relationship with the suspended Dennis Oliech, Amrouche said: “That is a kitchen matter for us. It is not for Malawi.”

The France-based deposed skipper Oliech earned the coach’s wrath for late arrival in camp, according to Kenya press.

Wednesday’s result was a third consecutive draw in the 2014 World Cup Group F qualifier for Kenya who anchor the group on three points and are certainly out of the race.
