Nairobi Kenya: Gor Mahia FC coach Zdravko Logarusic has been fired today by the
club’s management. The breaking news comes after a long and unclear wait
for his return from holiday in his native home Croatia.
The Croatian Coach failed to report back as was expected by the club
management when he went for a three weeks international break that
halted the Kenya Premier League to allow Harambee Stars play the 2014
World Cup qualifying matches against Nigeria and Malawi without
interruption.
Assistant coach Bobby Ogolla stood in as the head coach when the
team faced Karuturi Sports over the weekend at Afraha stadium in Nakuru.
According to the club website, Logarusic was sacked via email in a letter signed by club General Secretary George Bwana.
"You have not returned to your coaching duties on the day agreed and
as far as we are concerned, you have deserted. The club has decided to
relieve you of your duties with immediate effect", read part of the
letter.
Bwana appreciated Logarusic’s services and indicated that Bobby
Ogolla will lead the team as the head coach in the league title campaign
and other competitions as well.
“We wish to thank Mr. Logarusic for the services he has so far
rendered to the club and wish him well in his future endeavors. Bobby
Ogolla will continue to steer the team as the search for a long term
coach begins in earnest", added Bwana.
Logarusic was appointed by Gor Mahia as head Coach in March 2012 and
steered the side to the 2012/13 FKF Cup but lost the Tusker Premier
League trophy to Tusker FC on the season’s final day.
Under his reign, Uganda Cranes’
striker Daniel Sserunkuma won the 2012/13 KPL Most Valuable Player of
the Year Award and finished runner up in the golden race behind eventual
winner John Baraza.
He also signed Ugandan defender Israel Emuge from Kiira Young FC at
the start of the current campaign who became the third Ugandan at the
club. Former Kinyara and Maroons defender cum midfielder Ivan Anguyo
also plays for Gor Mahia.....Kawowo Sports.
