An Empty Kasarani Stadium |
Nairobi Kenya: Kenyan Premier League’s Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee ( IDAC) has ordered AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia to play their next league home matches in empty stadiums.
Both clubs are scheduled to host current table-toppers Thika United
in their next home matches. Gor will take on the milkmen on June 26
before Leopards entertain them on
July 1.
July 1.
The decision follows the
fan trouble that erupted during the first leg of the ‘Mashemeji derby’
on May 12 at Nyayo National Stadium in which K’ogalo stunned Ingwe 1-0.
Chaos
started in the 82nd minute on the Russia side of the Stadium after Dan
Sserenkuma’s 74th minute goal with K’ogalo fans taking the chance to
celebrate, dancing around the stadium taunting the Ingwe supporters.
The
ugly incidents forced centre referee, Davies Omweno, to temporarily
stop the match as the police dispersed the fans with teargas.
According
to the Disciplinary body, a Sh1m fine will be imposed on both clubs if
they fail to control their fans in the upcoming fixtures as required by
KPL rules.
As the hosts, Leopards were supposed to provide enough security for the match, but IDAC has absolved Ingwe of the blame saying both clubs were responsible to manage the conduct of their fans.
“Rule
3.4(a) of the Rules of Kenyan Football makes clubs responsible for the
conduct of their members and supporters, irrespective of whoever is
organizing the matches in which the clubs are participating. Similarly, a
club is responsible for the conduct of its members and supporters
irrespective of whether it is the home team or the away team,” IDAC said in its ruling published on KPL website on Wednesday....... Courtesy of Standard Digital News.
