Gor Mahia 3 KCB 2

For the first time in three years Gor Mahia played without a shirt sponsor but it still did not deter them from picking maximum points against KCB following a 3-2 win at City Stadium on Wednesday.

Gor Mahia's former shirt sponsors Tuzo pulled out last month forcing the club to play in new kit which have not been branded with a sponsor's logo. Rama Salim opened the scores for Gor Mahia in the 27th minute from a goal mouth melee before David 'Calabar' Owino added the second early in the second half rising up to head home an Innocent Mutiso corner.

Mutiso then wrapped up the scores in the 63rd minute. The bankers were lifted by goals from Chrispinus Onyango in the 80th minute and a late goal by Paul Kiongera from the penalty spot.

Irate Gor Mahia fans had to be dispersed by anti riot police after they besieged center referee Israel Mpaima protesting at the penalty. The fans bayed for Mpaima's blood accusing him of bias and had to be dispersed by the police, who used tear gas leading to running battles.

Gor Mahia were in control for a good part of the match and should blame themselves for conceding twice. The team appeared content after going ahead so early and the defence relaxed allowing the bankers to attempt a come-back.

In the seventh minute, Innocent Mutiso was denied by KCB goalkeeper Samuel Okinda and it looked a great effort to open the scores for Gor Mahia. Then an on fire Rama Salim was denied by the wood work.

Rama was having a great time and gave KCB defenders a hard time. His header in the 27th minute from a goal mouth melee opened the scores for Gor Mahia and he should have easily added a second almost immediately but he failed to connect from an Innocent Mutiso cross.

KCB had only one chance to get something in the first half. Paul Kiongera tried to pick out eventual goal scorer Chrispinus Onyango but Jerim Onyango in goal was quick to clear the danger. Kiongera won the first free-kick for the bankers early in the second half but his effort flew over the post.

But from the counter-attack Gor Mahia won a corner from which Owino headed home. Gor Mahia continued to raise their game after the second goal and it was no surprise when they got a third and though the bankers fought back towards the end, they still remain win less since the season started.
