Nadine Kessler was overcome with disbelief when her name was announced as the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year. The 26-year-old midfielder from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg succeeds her Germany team-mate Nadine Angerer as the winner of the game’s most prestigious individual award.

"I can’t think about anything at the moment and my whole body is tingling. The moment has left me totally overwhelmed and I’ll have to calm down and let it sink in first," the visibly moved Kessler confessed to FIFA.com following the announcement. "It’s a reward for hard work, good performances and a good development track. I know it’s a trophy for individuals, but I’d never have won it without my team-mates."

At the age of 26, German midfielder Nadine Kessler ended an incredible 2014 by being crowned FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year. The captain of Wolfsburg succeeds fellow German international Nadine Angerer – last year’s winner.

In 2014, Kessler showcased her talents as a pillar for her club, captaining them to the German women’s Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League titles. Those achievements helped her earn the UEFA Best Women's Player in Europe Award for 2013/14. Kessler also helped Germany qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. (Source - FIFA.com)
