Missing In Action: Harambee Stars Leave For Malawi Minus Besieged Striker Dennis Oliech

Dennis Oliech Fails To Travel With The Team
Courtesy of Goal. Harambee Stars left for Malawi on Sunday morning but former captain Dennis Oliech did not travel with the team.

According to multiple sources, the relationship between the player and coach Adel Amrouche has broken down completely after he failed to report to camp over the two weeks he has been in Nairobi.

Amrouche himself had hinted a day before the team's departure that he may not carry the player since he has not trained with the team at all.

"We have not seen him in camp since he came back home. We cannot carry him with us because we do not know his form," the coach told Goal on Saturday.

On Sunday, a source close to the teams technical bench said they have decided to move on without Oliech.

"They had a meeting on Saturday night and decided that it is better to look at  the future without Oliech," said our source.

Amrouche had stripped Oliech off the captaincy on Saturday and instead, appointed Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama to the position.

But sources close to the AC Ajaccio striker accused Amrouche of not treating him as a professional.

"The player is a professional who feels Amrouche does not take him seriously. He went to camp on Thursday after the World Cup qualifier against Nigeria but feels he was not treated well."

"He opted to stay away from the team. If the national team needs him he will come if not he prefers to concentrate on his club career," added the source.

Wanyama did not travel as well after he was injured during the match against the Super Eagles. Despite missing services of the two - Wanyama and Oliech - coach Amrouche is confident Kenya will triumph.

“We have the ability, why not win? We had small mistakes against Nigeria because we did not follow instructions but that is in the past. We are now focused on beating Malawi. The boys are focused and looking forward to the match."
